Urban Energy
The Cities Collection by Louis De Poortere is a celebration of urban energy, layered history, and architectural rhythm. Each rug is like a fragment of a living city—an abstracted map, a weathered façade, or the echo of footsteps on stone—translated into woven form. These rugs do not merely reflect cities; they capture their essence from above and within.
Inspired by metropolises such as Paris, New York, London and Tokyo, the collection is both a homage to place and a meditation on time. It explores how cities build upon themselves, how history accumulates in layers, and how the passage of time etches itself into stone, metal, and memory.

Design as Aerial Cartography and Urban Palimpsest
The artistic language of the collection is unmistakably informed by the aerial view—as if one were flying over a city, observing its gridlines, rooftops, alleyways, and arteries. Each rug becomes a kind of textile cartography, abstracting the city into tone and texture.
The overlapping patterns and distressed surfaces evoke the feeling of a palimpsest—a surface where one story has been written over another, yet traces remain. The result is a visual rhythm that mimics urban life: structured, chaotic, lived-in, and ever-evolving.

In Essence
The Cities Collection transforms the urban landscape into a form of woven memory—where architecture becomes abstraction, and geography becomes emotion. It invites us to see the city not just from the street level, but as a whole: a tapestry of lives, shapes, and histories, best appreciated from above, yet deeply grounded in place.
