The art of construction and deconstruction
The Craft Collection by Louis De Poortere is a tactile exploration of material expression, graphic experimentation, and the art of construction and deconstruction. Drawing inspiration from modernist movements and artisanal traditions, the collection is both intellectually rigorous and sensorially rich—a celebration of what is handmade, honest, and intentional.

Design Through Construction and Surface
Each design within the collection evokes a different aspect of “craft”:
-
Papercut plays with the notion of cut and compose—a rug that feels like a dynamic collage of bold shapes, referencing Bauhaus tangrams and avant-garde paper art. The edges are irregular, the forms assertive, giving the impression of a work in process—bold, conceptual, and kinetic.
-
Chess is a reimagining of the checkerboard—not in perfect grid, but in fragmented order. The pattern is deliberately disrupted, as if time, motion, or memory had blurred its structure. It’s a dialogue between graphic boldness and subtle texture, between geometry and erosion.
-
Ribbon continues this dialogue with flowing, calligraphic lines that evoke the hand-drawn and the handcrafted. Its rhythm suggests movement and gesture, like ink across paper—intuitive, expressive, and refined.
The designs echo the modernist principle that form follows function
But they add poetry to that logic
Between precision and imperfection, repetition and variation
In Essence
The Craft Collection is not ornamental—it is conceptual craftsmanship. It brings to the floor what the best design brings to the world: clarity, material truth, and visual rhythm. These rugs challenge the idea that softness must be subtle. Instead, they are bold, architectural, and alive with texture.
Each piece is not just a rug—it’s a composition. A thoughtful, grounded statement of how design meets touch, and tradition meets thought.
